Google Insights vs Google Trends

May 2nd, 2009

You may be using both Google Trends and Google Insights keyword tools for comparison of your chosen keyword and market.

But wait, have you realized that there are some difference in statistics among the two?

Recently i have compared some keywords among the two tools, and here’s the result.

1. The graphical trend over the time seems to be identical.

2. But the regions of interest appears to be a little different from the 2nd spot onwards.

Here’s a screenshot of it.

New Adwords Interface - Have You Tried It?

April 14th, 2009

If you have been using Adwords, you are probably using it already. But if you’re just using Adwords Editor, you may not realised that there’s a new interface Adwords is rolling out.

The new interface is cool and sleek, and most importantly it’s fast!

Making the management of the campaign very easy and intuitive, you will be offered to switch to the new interface with option to switch back to the old one within 30 days when you login. Frankly, i really like the new interface, in the old days i was using the web interface and campaign setting up is taking long time…

I didn’t see the campaign creation feature in the new interface, anyone??

I could see that Google is trying to make the campaign management on the web a lot easier. Would there be one day when this new interface would take over the function of editor??

Talk soon,

Adwords Conversion Tracking - An Ultimate Guide

November 22nd, 2008

Yes, Adwords conversion tracking is important in my PPC campaign.

The first thing that you need to do before starting any Adwords campaign is to have your Adwords conversion tracking turn ON.

And, secondly is to know what parameter to track in Conversion tracking.

I have seen many people doing PPC campaign especially Adwords, without using the Adwords Conversion Tracking. This is a big mistake to make. Unless you have a third party tool for tracking purpose.

Not knowing what conversion you’re getting in your lead sign up and sales is like sailing a ship without a direction.

I’m not sure why so many people are ignoring the conversion tracking and not using it. It’s not difficult to implement and Adwords has made it seamless to integrate this into your website.

Create a code snippet, and copy into your website, upload and you’re done.

Let me try to explain why conversion tracking is important.

Every Adwords advertiser would have a process / funnel that looks like this.

Ads Impression - Clicks - Leads - Purchase.

Let’s say your ads generate 1,000,000 impressions with a CTR of 2%, you will get 20,000 clicks or visitors to your website.

If you landing page capture 30% of the signup, which is 6,000 and out of that, 3% or 180 purchase your product.

However, knowing this figures in average terms is not enough.

Why? Because you do not know this in terms of your Adgroups and Keywords.

Simply integrate the Adwords conversion tracking into your campaign, you would instantly be able to track conversion by campaign, adgroup and as well as down to every keywords.

With this information, you will have critical information to optimize your campaign.

You could also see this information for your ads copy as well.

Now, what should you track in the conversion? Signup or Purchase? Since Google Adwords only allow one Adwords conversion tracking to be display.

I would recommend tracking signup conversion. Which mean you simply put the Adwords conversion tracking code on the thank you page of your signup form.

Signup process is probably one of the first goal for most advertiser, since they want to build a list and monetize them in the backend. Yes, the money is in the list!

From the above example, signup is 6,000 while purchase is only 180.

By tracking the signup conversion, we would be able to track faster as well as optimize faster. If you would to track purchase, then you are tracking the end of the process which is much slower.

Hence your campaign optimization process could be faster by as much as 33 times by your competitor who track purchase. This put you in much advantage of the competition.

Go ahead and use the Adwords conversion tracking now, it would only take you few minutes.

Make Money With Adwords: Introducing Google Marketer’s Playbook

May 24th, 2008

Google Marketer's Playbook

Google has recently introduced a series of educational talks on their products and services. This is a series of 7 videos where their experts share about their specific application such as Adwords, Analytics, Tracking and Optimization and Youtube.

These videos can be found on Youtube Google Busines channel.

More information can also be found on Adwords blog.

Personally i think these videos are more targeted towards the existing Adwords users to combine their advertising with offline media. One of the main objective is to cover the most reach at which the “buying mode” is.

So if you have the time, go watch those videos, these are not 3-4 mins short clips, they are about an hour each!

have a good weekend!

Make Money With Adwords: What You Don’t Know About Adwords Daily Budget?

May 18th, 2008

I always heard of people complaining in the forum that they lose money in Adwords, and some of them completely has no idea how to setup a proper budgeting in Adwords.

So, if you have some campaigns in Adwords and not paying attention to the daily budget, you need to know this stuff, before you end up paying Google money for nothing.

Here’s how I go about doing it.

Let’s say i start a new campaign, i would probably set it at $10/day.

Do take note that Adwords can have the ads deliver up to 20% more of your daily budget, which is $12.

So, Daily budget =  $10 (In fact this is only the average daily budget)

From this, you will know that the maximum amount you are going to spend is up to $10 x 30 days, which is $300, in a particular billing period.

But you need to know that your ad delivery setting would affect your ads being shown too.

till next time,

Thomas

Make Money With Adwords: How Do You Measure Adwords Return Of Investment?

May 16th, 2008

Recently i met some old friends who is running some online business from all kind of markets, and they started some campaigns in Adwords, there’s ONE “serious” thing i learned from them after the meet-up, which i think is very important in your online business, especially those people who are focused on “make money with Adwords” market.

The million dollar question is..

>> Are you aware of your Return Of Investment - ROI of your advertising?

>> Which is, if you spend $10 in your Adwords campaign, how much would you get back in your business?

>> A simple example would be, $50 revenue from $10 spent in Adwords campaign, means it’s 400% in ROI,resulting in $40 net profit.

If you don’t know how much you are making after spending certain amount of money in advertising, then you are seriously putting your business at risk, no matter how small or how big your business is. Would you agree with me?

You need to know those details.

For me, i would track the number of clicks, Adwords cost, and Sales and determine if i want to measure the ROI daily or weekly, or even monthly. You just find what works for you and stick to those.

And usually i would do a monthly average for my campaign. This is kind like monthly report, most MNC would also do this in their multi million or billion businesses!

Once you know all these information, it’s easy to decide if you want to increase your bid, drop your bid, change the keywords and anything else to optimize your campaign, and drive up the ROI.

So, start today if you have not done so.

You will be glad if you did, this is bread and butter of online advertising::)

Simply generate a report showing your daily adwords cost, and start comparing the daily sales for your recent campaign and measure your return of investment.

Till next time,

Thomas
